Crucial M4 – BSOD Issue Fixed with Firmware Update

Crucial M4The Crucial M4 has been plagued by issues concerning BSODs after around 5200 hours of usage (about 7 months of usage time). Crucial has just released a firmware update, version 0309, to address the issue. Those who aren’t experiencing the blue screen should also update their firmware as this will prevent the issue from occurring the future.

One should note however, the firmware update is not compatible with SAS Expanders. Crucial is currently working on an update to address the hardware issue, however, if you currently use an SAS Expander, it isn’t recommended that you upgrade.

SandForce II controllers have had a rocky history thus far, as BSOD problems have plagued the platform, causing data loss and problems for many.
