Patriot Wildfire

Patriot Wildfire

Only drive from the company and one of the fastest.

The Patriot Wildfire is the companies first foray into making SSDs with SandForce’s SF-2281 memory controller. Using Toshiba’s 32nm MLC NAND Flash, the drive is looking to position itself as one of the fastest on the market, competing directly with OCZ’s Vertex 3 MAX IOPS drives.

In fact, there really is little difference in the performance of both drives. Ultimately what drive one choose will be dependent upon how competitive each company wishes to price their drives.

As of the time of this writing however, both drives are priced exactly the same, which might be considered a disadvantage for Patriot given OCZ’s foothold in the industry and the name they’ve built for the Vertex Series.

Sequential read and write speeds from the manufacturer are stated at 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s respectively. This makes it on par with the fastest drives on the market, like the before mentioned Vertex 3 MAX IOPS and Intel’s own SandForce based SSD, the Intel 520 Series.

As with all SandForce based SSDs, the drive has TRIM support as well as DuraClass technology. Be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware or you could potential run into problems later on.
